Soque Fishing Report 2nd Half of January 2019

Fishing has been hot this winter with lots of big fish eating every trip.  Nothing in fishing is guaranteed, but I'm not seeing this bite slowing down!   With 5 inches of rain in the last week, the river is borderline non-wadeable. I recommend if you do fish, stick to slower water and / or hire someone with experience on the water to help keep you safe.  As always, remember to wear your wading belt and bring your wading staff. The water should start coming down to safer wading conditions in the next few days. However, with the forecasted rain this week and next, it won't last long.

The fish are hungry, but picky right now.   Soaring Eagle Outfitters have been thinking outside the box of standard fly selections and we have been changing flies frequently.  The bite is inconsistent and what’s working earlier in the day hasn't been working later in the day. Flies that have been working well lately include: Mops, Eggs, Squirmies, various Frenchies, and Hares Ears.

MUST HAVES!  Don't forget to layer! With the colder temperatures (mornings have been averaging mid 20’s right now) be sure to bring 2 pairs of gloves, a warm hat, scarfs and some hand warmers to keep warm.  We have been making regular trips to the fire pits to warm up after each hole. The moment you let your feet go numb or lose feeling in your hands, it’s hard to regain and could end a day before the fishing gets good.

As Always, Stay Safe and Tight Lines!

Joe with Soaring Eagle Outfitters.
